Saab

Not just a car

I'm not a car sort of person - totally unmoved by exotic breeds. But...

This is the only photograph I have of a Saab, which is odd because although I have owned two Saabs this isn't one of them. I'll have to get a bit car-y for a minute in order to get ahead, so, quickly, my Saabs were 9000's and not proper ones. This, my Dad's 900, is definitely a proper Saab.

I like this photo for a number of reasons, principally because it reminds me of a trip my Dad and I made down through France. We stopped for a coffee one slightly damp morning, and unless I'd found this photo I'd have forgotten much of that journey, but now it's back, and there we were, powering our way down to St Yriex-la-Perche in this cocoon of Saabiness. Which brings me to the point of this entry; how good are Saabs! That's not a question, that's a statement.

Solid, simple, great design inside and out. And the look from all angles. I've just always liked them. It started with the 99's, then the heyday with the 900's, then a drop off as the reality of making a car down to a price gripped the Saab mindset until they just gave up and left us to make the most of what we had. I have to say I'm tempted.
